Who We Are

We are a group of teachers who believe we need to re-work Illinois Teacher Pensions so they are fair, portable, sustainable. Having an adequate pension system for Illinois’ teachers matters. It matters to the children in the classrooms; it matters to the teachers who teach those children; and it matters to our future.

Illinois Educators for Fair Retirement is a group of teachers from across the state of Illinois who share a common interest in improving retirement security for all Illinois teachers. We are focused on raising standards for the teaching profession to enable educators to better serve students.

Our voices represent the professional diversity of the state we serve. Our classroom experience ranges from recently hired, to mid-career, to veteran, to retired. We teach early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school courses in both traditional public schools and public charter schools. Our teachers are part of the Teachers’ Retirement System of Illinois (TRSIL) and Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund (CTPF). Teachers in both Tier 1 and Tier 2 created these recommendations through studying the retirement system and applying insights from their knowledge of school districts from across the state.

This workgroup was formed to study the Illinois Teacher Retirement System and other issues related to teacher retirement benefits and to develop a set of policy recommendations to ensure that all teachers are well served and on a path to a secure retirement.
